Plus a conversation I had with Oberkirch, Manuel, Richman and special guest Josh Hallet just before the PR session.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Today our feature is Web 2.0.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0The net is abuzz with a huge flap over the use of the phrase Web 2.0, stemming from the Web 2.0 conference being put on by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tomrafteryit.net\/\">IT@Cork<\/a>, and CMP\/<a href=\"http:\/\/radar.oreilly.com\/archives\/2006\/05\/controversy_about_our_web_20_s.html\">O&#8217;Reilly<\/a>\u00a0 asserting trademark protection over the term, apparently when applied to conferences.\u00a0 I dunno, seems like a silly move by CMP and O&#8217;Reilly.\u00a0 I do understand the issue of trademark protection, but the whole thing seems a bit muddled and unnecessary. Ah well, leave it to the lawyers.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m just hoping that the end result is that we dump the phrase Web 2.0 altogether and find a nice &quot;open-source&quot; term, with a bit more meaning and a lot less hype.\u00a0 \ud83d\ude42\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/redcouch.typepad.com\/weblog\/2006\/05\/oreilly_radar_w.html\">Shel Israel<\/a> suggests &quot;social media.&quot; Yup, that works pretty good. At least it&#8217;s somewhat descriptive.<\/p>\n<p>Others commenting: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.weblogswork.com\/?p=545\">Brian Oberkirch<\/a>, with a vote for dumping the term. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.makeyougohmm.com\/20060525\/3361\/\">TDavid<\/a>, who <a href=\"https:\/\/getgood.typepad.com\/getgood_strategic_marketi\/2005\/12\/random_acts_of_.html\">(like<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/getgood.typepad.com\/getgood_strategic_marketi\/2005\/12\/grab_bag_web_20.html\">me)<\/a> has <a href=\"http:\/\/www.makeyougohmm.com\/20051219\/2752\/\">never much liked it<\/a>.\u00a0And more commenters on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.techmeme.com\/060525\/p57#a060525p57\">techmeme<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Good bye Web 2.0??
