{"id":502,"date":"2008-05-15T16:07:07","date_gmt":"2008-05-15T20:07:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/getgood.com\/roadmaps\/?p=502"},"modified":"2008-05-15T16:07:07","modified_gmt":"2008-05-15T20:07:07","slug":"blogger-relations-tip-check-the-blog-before-you-press-send","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/getgood.com\/roadmaps\/2008\/05\/15\/blogger-relations-tip-check-the-blog-before-you-press-send\/","title":{"rendered":"Blogger relations tip: Check the blog before you press send"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In all the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.socialmediaexplorer.com\/2008\/05\/11\/why-pr-folks-should-blacklist-bloggers\/\">chatter<\/a> this week about <a href=\"http:\/\/www.prweekus.com\/PR-blacklist-wont-fix-imperfect-system\/article\/110084\/\">blacklists<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pr-squared.com\/2008\/05\/maybe_it_was_all_a_big_misunde.html\">quality<\/a> (or lackthereof) of media databases, a comment by Doug Haslam, both on <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/DougH\/statuses\/811428586\">Twitter<\/a> and a post by <a href=\"http:\/\/pr.typepad.com\/pr_communications\/2008\/05\/are-media-datab.html\">John Cass<\/a> and Jason Falls, reminded me of one of my personal cardinal rules of blogger relations. <\/p>\n<p>No matter how well you know the blogger or love the blog, it&#8217;s next to impossible to read every day, every post. No one expects that you will. But, if you are going to pitch, <strong>you absolutely must check the blog before you press &lt;send&gt;.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For the most part, we don&#8217;t have visibility into the lives of the mainstream media journalists to whom we email our pitches. We can&#8217;t be expected to know that they are on vacation or the dog died or they just got out of hospital. In other words, that it is a bad time to send a pitch. <\/p>\n<p>Well, we do have that visibility into the lives of bloggers.
