I don’t watch much television. For any number of reasons. And those of you that really love the shows you watch should be really really glad.
Because just about everytime I start watching a long-running show regularly, it gets cancelled.
I started watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer regularly at the beginning of Season 7. Bye bye Buffy.
I followed my favorite BtVS character Spike to Angel when he shifted over in Angel Season 5. Hasta la vista, Angel.
Just this year, I started watching Stargate SG-1, mostly because it was on after Dr. Who on the Sci-Fi channel. I discovered I really liked Ben Browder and Claudia Black. Yup, you guessed it… this season (number 10) will be its last season on Sci-Fi. Announced yesterday.
I had watched all of these shows from time to time before I started watching them regularly but hadn’t really gotten into them, again for a number of reasons not really relevant to this post. And as soon as I did, the party was over.
BTW, this does not seem to happen when I watch a show from the beginning, so Bones and Dr. Who, the other two shows I enjoy these days, should be fairly safe since I’ve watched Dr. Who off and on since Dr. Number 3 and Bones since the beginning.
So, if there are shows you really really like, and would prefer I NOT watch, please feel free to let me know in the comments. And if there is a series you’d like to see gone, I’ll see what I can do. Unless it is Stargate Atlantis. Can’t get into that show at all, so you are on your own. Sandy, I’ll do my best to stay away from Battlestar Galactica.
Anyway, I am now TIVO’ing Farscape repeats and watching my Firefly and Remington Steele DVDs. I figure that’s safe, since those shows are already cancelled. 🙂

Farscape rocks, especially the earlier episodes (the last season got a little weird). The fans went crazy when the cancellation loomed and fought hard to keep the show on the air — I heard the actors were also on board — but alas, the executioner came anyway.
And here I thought it was just me! I’d watched SG-1 off and on for years but only really got hooked the past couple of years – partly as I was such a big fan of Farscape (with Ben Browder and Claudia Black – great chemistry!)
I keep hoping there will be Farscape movies…dare we hope the same for Angel and SG-1?
(And, yes, I agree the last season of FS was a little weird.)
Back to the real world (whatever that is!)

Farscape
And I kid you not- I watched my first and only SG-1 episode two weeks ago.
Thank goodness BG seems to be thriving.
My beef with Invasion is the same with any heavy-handed foreshadowing: We’re told up front that the invasion did in fact occur, but the main characters by and large don’t know it. So we’re stuck waiting for the characters to figure out what we’ve all known for well, months. I prefer Lost in that there is much to learn – of course, that can be overdone as well.
BSG (redux) is excellent, and I’m getting more into Eureka now that they’ve gotten past showing random nerds spouting off whatever theorems. They just don’t seem to have a handle on what to do with the Sheriff’s daughter yet, but I trust they’ll figure it all out before ECW expands into their time slot. 🙁
Nice to know I’m not alone. Then I wonder, if there are so many of us, how come all we can find on TV is yucky reality shows and comedies that seem more like retreads of better shows gone by.
And yes, that was a rhetorical question 🙂
And, to any of our clients or Moms out there reading this – yes, we are all adults and we work for a living 😉
And, Oh BOY, BSG will be on again soon! (Don’t watch Susan, don’t watch!)
just saw this post – my husband and I are getting into Eureka and we just got Battlestar Galactica from netflix – I resisted as he watched show after show, but I finally got sucked into that show. I loved the 4400 its first season, but it lost me after that. this is why i love netflix – you can watch shows you missed for years and actually catch up.
