Friends and long-time readers, will you follow me if I move this blog off Typepad, which is driving me progressively crazy, over to a new address?
Here’s my problem. This blog has a custom design. Which means I cannot easily use ANY of the Typepad widgets to add functionality. Everything has to be done by hand.
And some things don’t work too well. Like the weird narrow delicious linkroll. Why is it so narrow? Who knows. I’ve messed around for a bit and it just gets narrower. I finally had to move my Blogroll to a separate page because it became one word per line and I HAVE NO IDEA WHY. Admittedly, I did not set up my design. But still… When I mess around with my WordPress blogs, I can usually figure out what is going on. Here, not so much.
So I am contemplating switching over to WordPress. I would leave the old Typepad blog up as an archive — a single user Typepad account is not that expensive — and just move forward on the new site from a cut-over date. With the flexibility of WordPress, I think we could even have a search into the old content if you wanted it.
I am well aware that this move would put my rankings into the toilet, but since I don’t really care about that, the more germane issue is: Will you come with me when I move? You I care about.
Should I do it or just continue to suck up the irritation that Typepad is becoming?
I’ll follow you 🙂
TypePad, WordPress…no matter.
It’s all about content, IMHO.
Go WordPress! I recommend it. It is much more intuitive and I’m all for anything that makes doing what you do (and love!) easier at the end of the day. Most definitely, I too will follow you!

Go wherever you need to. Not a problem!
If you want to move, the best solution is
1)take a domain name https://www.toto.com and link it to
https://getgood.typepad.com/getgood_strategic_marketi/
typepad, configuration, acces site
2) submit google your sitemap xml (if you don”‘t have sitemap, do it now (send us a mail and we will send you the code for it under typepad)
of course, you have to be in advanced design .. if you are not, transdform your design in advanced design..
3) move to Movabletype (because structure is quite close to typepad -the same MT balise). Then you will keep your design (we just did it for https://www.virtuosgames.com )
Be carefull only with URLs because typepad doesn’t take special characters like accent, ç, and co. Movabletype takes it
é in typepad becomes nothing
é in movabletype becomes e
4) after migration, submit google your new sitemap under mt
5) use url rewritting to have new URL like
https://www.toto.com/title-long-of-post and not https://www.toto.com/2008/05/title-short
resubmit sitemap
6) of you want to move to wordpress, move from movabletype to wordpress
resubmit sitemap
Good luck 🙂
Yes, I’d follow you anywhere. And this is interesting – I have a crazy difficult time making widgets fit on the sidebar of my Typepad blogs and have been debating whether I should work more on Typepad to get it to look the way I want it to or switch to MT or WP. I’ll be watching with interest.
Of course I’ll follow you. Let me know where to go!

Of course I’ll follow you to a new blog! Sorry you’re having such trouble with Typepad.
