Good things about the W list meme:
- Lots of linky love for deserving women bloggers.
- Exposes new blogs to potential new readers
Not so good things:
No organization, except for one poster who took the time to categorize the blogs as of one moment. So, no way to quickly find new blogs you might be interested in unless the name is obvious.
Missing things:
The list started as a list of women PR/Marketing bloggers, and then evolved to women business bloggers, and then just women bloggers. But it’s pretty much missing a significant segment of the female blogging population: moms. Since my marketing colleagues have pretty much covered the PR/marketing and businesswomen I might have added, here are some of my favorite mom blogs:
- Mom 101, Liz Gumbinner
- BlogRhet, a group blog, all women
- Her Bad Mother, Catherine Connors
- Joy Unexpected, Y
- Picture This, Tracey Clark
- i am bossy, Georgia Getz
And here is the whole list, sucked up from this wiki.

This is quite a list and I’ve seen several variations of it before, and probably will see more.
I certainly agree that it would really benefit by some organization! Perhaps someone will step forward and do the task.
One of my blogs is already on the list. I have another one which focuses on Empowerment and Meditation. Perhpas that one will eventually be added to the list.
Thanks for posting the list of women bloggers. And I celebrate women bloggers.
Robyn says
Thanks for extending the W-meme roadmap on your site!
Anne Libby says
Thanks so much for posting the list, it has been great fun reading so many blogs, and finding new people to connect to.
Be well
C.B. Whittemore says
Susan, thanks for continuing the discussion and good comments about the organization angle. Carolyn, the Wild Wiki Woman, is working on adding the categories to the Magical W Wiki.
megan says
Hello Susan!
Thanks for posting the list – it’s an honor to be part of such a wonderful group of talented and amazing women.
Go us!
Gavin Heaton says
Some great reading here, thanks Susan. It is exciting to see so many great blogs getting more attention.
Christina says
Lots of good blogs, and I think your additions are great. I’m surprised to see so few mom blogs on the list.
Susan Getgood says
Thanks for all the comments!
Christina, I think the reason the list is light on mom blogs is because it started its life as a list of women pr/marketing and business bloggers. When it shifted to be a list of women bloggers, it *needed* to have mom blogs on it, because, quite frankly, some of the best writing in the blogosphere is on mom blogs. I wish I had time to type in my entire blogroll, but I just had to pick a few of my favorites.
Susan Cartier Liebel says
Thanks for keeping the list evolvoing and growing and introducing us to another segment of women bloggers. The organizational aspect is well noted.
Connie Reece says
Great to see you adding mom bloggers. I agree that they make an important contribution. Also glad to hear C.B. say that the wiki will be updated to organize the list by category. That will be very helpful.
Yvonne DiVita says
Susan, great job with this detailed list. (saw a few bloggers in the list who are NOT moms, but… I think all women are Moms of a sort). You always manage to find the uniqueness of things – and getting to the heart of this list is what it’s all about. Is this a phenomenal opportunity for some[one] to create a W world… that isn’t ‘exclusive’ but ‘inclusive’ because women like to wrap our arms around the whole world?
Mary Clare Hunt says
Thanks Susan, It’s nice to see this spreading around via word-of-mouth. Now it’s my turn do the same.
Ike says
Hey Susan – I’ve been tracking this thing for over a week now, and I’m glad to see that Jackie Huba is finally on the list. (I know you just copied the Wiki, but this was a later development.)
My only beef with it early on was Jackie’s omission. It seemed odd to me that people proclaiming women to me equal to men (which they are) would dismiss Jackie’s work because (gasp!) a MAN also blogs there. It seemed demeaning to me that so many people didn’t consider her for the list from the get-go – as though she was riding Ben McConnell’s coattails.
I’m glad these bloggers are all getting the attention they deserve – let’s just make sure that if there IS any future deficit of attention, we remember that we only have ourselves to blame.
tracey says
What a list! And what an honor to be included. Thanks so much for the shout out Susan.
Mom101 says
Wow Susan I’m so honored!
When I first saw this list I was very aware that there were no mombloggers per se on there…just different blog circles. Then I saw your name and thought, we’ll at least there’s someone I know. And now, hey wow. We’re in it together.
Thank you.
