Back on the grid from Camp WorldWIT

May 23, 2005 by Susan Getgood

Well, I have been off the grid for the past few days at Camp WorldWIT in Lake Geneva Wisconsin. It was a terrific weekend of meeting smart successful women from all over the country, and in fact from overseas as well. Of course, I had withdrawal symptoms from not having Internet access until I hit the Admiral’s Club on Sunday morning before my flight home.

Some of my highlights:

All three keynote speakers were excellent: Sheila Cavanaugh, SVP at Fidelity, Dr. Sheila Dugan from Rush University Medical Center and Rosalyn Wesley, Director of Corporate HR at Fortune Brands.

Kathleen Ameche’s tale of the process to publish her new book, The Woman Road Warrior.

The wonderful women who attended the panel on which I was a speaker. They had terrific questions about blogging, and I really enjoyed meeting and speaking with them. Below I have posted the additional links I promised during the session.

Sunrise yoga.

Some really great sessions on sales and marketing issues. It is great to meet people of like mind who believe in a sales and marketing partnership, versus a war.

And last but not least, all the terrific women I met during the weekend.

Links

Typepad  and Blogger,  two well known hosted services for blogs. Blogger is free, but I think less functional for business blogging. I use Typepad.

Two search engines for blogs: Technorati and PubSub

I also want include the WorldWIT blogs: Business Mom,  Networking for Success,  PRGirl,  The Customer Clique and The Male Perspective

As I start hearing back from the women I met at Camp WorldWIT  about their new blogs, I will create a new category on my blogroll, and include the WorldWIT ones as well.

the mongol rally blog

May 6, 2005 by Susan Getgood

As I periodically do, last night I checked Technorati to see if any new blogs had started linking to me. And discovered that the mongol rally blog-2005 has included me in their blogroll.

I’m pretty flattered, as it is a fairly small blogroll, so I guess it means they really like my blog. And I am also pleased to have found them, as they are about to embark on a pretty cool adventure — 8000 miles across Mongolia in a 2CV in a rally that will raise money to feed the poor in Africa.

So thank you Julia and Damian for reading my blog, and good luck in the rally. I look forward to following your progress.

Marketing Pot Pourri

Wrap-up of interesting posts I read this week.

One of the funniest posts I’ve read in a long time from Shelley Powers at Burningbird: Guys Don’t Link Just read it, there’s no way I can do justice to it without quoting huge chunks, and it is so much better as a whole. Make sure to read the comments as well.

Wayne Hurlbert of Blog Business World posts his chapter from the upcoming book 100 Bloggers. Nice, simple introduction to "citizen publishing."

From Jeremy Wright of Ensight, the Fortune 500 companies with blogs

Blogging for Niches by Thomas Pierce over at How to Blog for Fun and Profit. This is a great practical blog full of advice and techniques for people getting started with blogging.

Some mindless fun from Jim Logan at JSLogan:  Where have you been

A new blog to check out: re:invention blog for woman entrepreneurs

Mid-Week Link Soup

March 2, 2005 by Susan Getgood

Guaranteed to be tasty!

From BL Ochman: How to Set a Corporate Blogging Policy  Links to great article from down-under about the corporate blogging phenomenon. Her what’s next blog is a great source of information about corporate blogging.

From Dan Gillmor, and also Steve Rubel, news of the Citizen Journalist Starter Pack. Posted in other places as well I am sure. I have nothing new to add to what already has been said, other than it is really funny, and I wanted my most loyal reader (my mom) to see it!

I don’t tend to comment too much on tech issues, although I do follow them. For example, the recent “discussions” about the Google toolbar. Others who focus on the search space have been far more articulate than I could ever hope to be. Here’s the exception: you have to check out the Dougal Evil Toolbar, which I found on Threadwatch.

For non-techies, Dougal is such a crystal clear way of showing just how evil manipulating search results could be….

If you want to follow the search engine wars, you should check out Threadwatch.
